Minimum wage to increase from April

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

The Government has announced an increase to the minimum wage from $20 per hour to $21.2 per hour on April 1st.

The minimum wage will increase by 5.9 per cent in order to match the 5.9 per cent increase in the price of goods and services in New Zealand in the last three months of 2021 compared to 2020. This means that minimum wage employees working 40 hours per week will be earning an extra $2500 more each year.

As an employer you should have a plan in place to ensure all necessary changes are implemented.
